Vientiane & Nam Ngum Lake Escape (4D/3N)

Breakfast at the hotel. Today we start to explore the town; with Wat Sisaket which is the oldest temple still standing in Vientiane. This amazing structure features remarkable frescoes and Buddha images. We continue sightseeing by visiting Haw Prakeo, the former royal temple of Laos monarchy, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Statue. We then visit the imposing Patuxay Monument, which is well known as Vientiane's own Arc de Triumph before continuing to the famous That Luang Stupa and Then visit of the day will be the excellent COPE exhibition centre, highlighting a much overlooked aspect of Laos and a major problem many of the local people face on a day to day basis in the form of unexploded ordnance as a result of heavy bombing campaigns during the Vietnam War. In the afternoon we then drive to the Buddha Park was started in 1958 by Luang Pu (Venerable Grandfather) Bunleua Sulilat. Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat was a priest-shaman who integrated Hinduism and Buddhism. His unique perspective was influenced by a Hindu rishi under whom he studied in Vietnam. After the revolution in 1975, anxious about the repercussions of the rule of Pathet Lao, he fled from Laos to Thailand where he built another sculpture park, Sala Keoku in Nong Khai. Both parks are located right next to the Thai-Lao border (Mekong River), only a few kilometers apart from each other, and the tallest structures of the Buddha Park can actually be seen from the Thai side of Mekong Overnight in Vientiane.

Breakfast at the hotel. Today, we head out of the city and make our way to Nam Ngum Lake, a huge reservoir created by damming the Nam Ngum River. Along the way, stop to visit Vang Xang, a beautiful archeological site and then, we continue to visit Pa Seng Handicraft center. Upon arrival at Nam Ngum Lake, we embark on a boat to cruise for 1hour around the Lake with lunch onboard. On the way back to Vientiane, if time permits, perhaps you might want to experience gambling at the legal Lao casino (Dansavanh) located in the valley where you can also enjoy a beautiful view of the lake. We return to Vientiane by late evening also stop at local market Ban Koudsambath before we arrives Vientiane. Overnight in Vientiane.
